PRAYER Rx --- May 27
Dear Lord, help each of us on Pentecost Sunday to desire to understand more fully the purpose of the founding of Your church. ... Even though Your disciples were "born again" in the Upper Room when You breathed the Holy Spirit into them, You told them to wait in Jerusalem for the power of the Holy Spirit to come upon them! ... Forgive us, for too often we have been satisfied with being "reborn," that is, receiving a new spirit and prayer line to You, and Your promise of eternal life. Yet You want us to wait and pray to be empowered too! ... We live in a fractured world as Your first disciples did, for as Christians today we are faced with ridicule and persecution, and our freedoms are endangered. ... We need all that You have for us -- the power and the spiritual gifts for the words to witness, the faith to pray for healing and miracles, and the courage to keep Your Word alive! Oh Lord, help us each to sincerely seek Your Pentecost experience* in our lives today.
