PRAYER Rx --- January 7
Dear Lord, forgive us all for letting our pride in our nation's scientific achievements, our economic growth, and our material comforts cloud our thinking. Help us not to be too quick to discard all of the wisdom of former leaders and concerned citizens. Forgive us for our arrogance. ... Let us consider these words of William Penn: "All men must be governed by God or they will be ruled by tyrants!" And also those of President Woodrow Wilson: "The sum of the whole matter is this - that our civilization cannot survive materially unless it can be redeemed spiritually. ... Only then can discontent be driven out and all of the shadows lifted from the road ahead." ... Oh Lord, help us to learn from those before us who have accepted You and tried to live out Your will in their lives. Help us to want that too, for ourselves and our children, and for all citizens of our nation.
We pray this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
